Formerly Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment (or “CIA”)
…and Professional Development –
…all about learning and teaching!
Here is a snapshot of our collective work!
Assessment = the “How we Know” students are learning (and Reporting)
Using summative assessments – such as New England Common Assessment Program, or NECAP, VT’s current state assessment of student learning, soon to be Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, or SBAC, as assessments “OF” learning
Increasing use of more formative, local, common assessments at schools, grade levels/clusters, and departments/content areas to assess “FOR” learning, as well as “OF” learning
Supporting Professional Learning Communities, “PLCs,” and Data Teams to look at student work and data, and collaborate to improve learning and teaching
Instruction = the “How” of teaching
Working toward transformation, personalization, project based, problem focused, student driven, integrated orientation to learning, 21st Education
Curriculum = the “What” of learning
Directing the planning, improvement, implementation, and evaluation of the RNESU Curriculum – across all content areas; now aligning with the RNESU Compact, Common Core State Standards CCSS, Next Generation Science Standards, and more
Supporting the implementation of mission driven, coherent, viable, rigorous, and relevant curriculum across all areas, with “essential learnings” for all students
Professional Learning/Staff Development = the “How we continually learn” to improve our professional practice
Manage Grants to Support “CIA” Work
Working closely with Leadership Team (Brenda and Beth!) and other colleagues to write and maintain relevant grants, programs, strategies, amendments and reports to support CIA work, and to manage the proper use and investments of funds
Structure of “CIA” Office at RNESU
In addition to the work of collaborative committees and groups above, Edie directs
Beth Rand, who assists all of us to be well organized, leading, responsive, and service oriented!
Multiple Teacher Leaders who are facilitating work and Consultants who are supporting our work in literacy, mathematics, social studies, science, mentoring, and other high priority areas,
