COVID INCREASE IN SCHOOLS: Once again, we are seeing an increase in COVID cases in our schools. Students and staff alike are testing positive on a daily basis. The latest variant causes illness from mild to severe. Please continue to monitor your child’s health and do not send them to school if they have symptoms! We will send a student home who has symptoms as we want to limit the spread in the schools. We need to take care of each other. Staying home when sick, wearing a mask, and avoiding crowded situations are all personal mitigation measures that can help! If you need an antigen test, please see your school nurse. WE NEED YOUR HELP! BUDGET RE-VOTE TUESDAY APRIL 26: The OVUUSD budget was defeated in March with fewer than a third of the usual voter turn out. Why? Perhaps because voters did not realize that Brandon and Pittsford mailed municipal ballots and the schools, by law, were not allowed to do the same. We need your help! The new vote for a slightly reduced budget will take place on April 26, 2022 (see below, you can vote early!). A virtual informational session will take place on April 25 at 6:30 pm. Please spread the word far and wide! Show up and be heard- vote! YOU CAN VOTE EARLY: Later this week, town offices will have the official ballots ready and you can go into your town office and vote early or you can request an absentee ballot if you don’t prefer to vote in person. We will notify you when walk-in voting is available.

COVID TESTS AVAILABLE: While our nurses continue to conduct diagnostic testing in school and make home antigen tests available on an as needed basis, there are times families want to have more testing done, such as before or after an event. We have been told that by April 4, families who wish to have antigen tests may make an appointment at a State of Vermont testing site to obtain up to eight rapid antigen tests or one LAMP test per appointment for their use at home. To make an appointment, click link: https://www.healthvermont.gov/covid-19/testing/where-get-tested

Update on mask mandates from the Agency of Education Feb 28: On Feb. 25, 2022, the CDC updated their COVID-19 guidance on wearing masks indoors as well as on school buses. Vermont is currently evaluating that guidance. Schools should continue to follow the recommendations from the Agency of Education and Vermont Department of Health to guide their decision making. We will have an announcement later this week on next steps in our public health recommendations for schools.
